Moving checklist. A few tips and ideas from the team 3-6 WEEKS BEFORE THE MOVE - Get quotes from movers or truck hire companies and reserve in advance - Take stock of non-boxable items. Add 15% to their combined cubic meters (along with total cubic meters of boxes), to determine the truck size needed - Using the floorplan of your new home, determine what furniture will be kept - If required, organise storage and advise movers of two locations - Use up things that can't be moved such as food in your freezer - Arrange to cancel/transfer utilities (gas, electricity, internet) and organise insurance for your new home, our partners at Move Me In can assist with this. 1-2 WEEKS BEFORE THE MOVE - Visit the RMS to change your address on your license and registration - Consult your vet about how best make the move for your pet - Cancel any automatic payments on bank accounts you are closing - Organise redirection of your mail and update any delivery services - Organise a babysitter or pet sitter for the moving day - Pack two extra day's worth of clothing, toiletries, set of sheets and pillows, valuables and legal documents to go with you, not the truck - Leave appliance manuals and warranties on the kitchen bench MOVING DAY - Make a list of all boxes and items to be cross checked when delivered - Check old home to make sure you've turned off water, appliances etc, check attic and garage - Assemble first day items: scissors, rubbish bags, coffee, tea, cups and kettle, bottled water, paper plates, toilet paper, bath towels, hand soap. and mattress - Make sure all utilities are connected - Settle into your new home!
